Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has alleged that he has been subjected to “severe torture” and injustice during the last 10 months of his imprisonment, according to his sister Dr Uzma Khan, who met him during his medical examination at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Dr Faisal and Dr Uzma said Imran asked her to convey his message to the nation about his treatment in custody. She said Imran referred to former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, who died while in custody, while expressing fears about the conditions in which he was being held. Dr Uzma made the allegations after Imran was taken from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) during the night of August 20 and 21 for a court-ordered medical examination. He was returned to Adiala Jail at around 5am after the examination. The government has rejected concerns over Imran’s physical health. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said a team of doctors, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician, carried out a detailed examination and declared the former prime minister medically fit. Dr Uzma was present during the examination. PTI, however, has raised serious concerns over Imran’s health, his treatment in custody and the circumstances surrounding the brief hospital visit. The party has also questioned why he was taken to PIMS rather than Shifa International Hospital, which had been specified in the Supreme Court proceedings.
