One thing I noticed in Japan is that although locals may appear introverted/standoffish, as soon as you make a polite and genuine effort to to talk to them, they become interested and engaged with you. This vid shows that off very well ❤️

Yusuf Olatunji (Baba L’Ẹgba) – Story in English Yusuf Olatunji, popularly known as Baba L’Ẹgba or Baba Legba, was one of the greatest legends of Yoruba Sakara music. He was born around 1905–1909. Although accounts differ on his exact birthplace, he had family roots in Iseyin, Oyo State, and also had strong ties to Abeokuta, Ogun State. He was originally named Joseph Olatunji and was raised as a Christian before later converting to Islam and adopting the name Yusuf Olatunji. Yusuf Olatunji loved music from a young age. He learned to play the Sakara drum, a traditional Yoruba drum commonly associated with Islamic praise music. He began performing with local groups before forming his own band and quickly became one of the most respected Sakara musicians in Nigeria. His songs were rich in Yoruba proverbs, wisdom, history, and moral lessons. He praised kings, community leaders, and successful people, while also encouraging honesty, humility, and hard work. His music entertained people and preserved Yoruba culture for future generations. Despite suffering a serious accident that left him physically disabled for part of his life, Yusuf Olatunji continued performing from a wheelchair. His determination inspired many people across Nigeria. He recorded more than 50 songs, including classics such as “Bolowo Bate,” which remain popular today. Yusuf Olatunji died on 15 December 1978, but his influence on Sakara music and Yoruba culture lives on.
