The lizard is great but let's be real, so many of the other animals/characters make this movie what it is. Its a great movie! not only because of 1 lizard.

The big difference between Elio and Hoppers is, that they actually did some marketing for Hoppers, and yes, they used the lizard a lot for marketing. Elio could’ve been really successful, if they had just marketed it right, but Disney apparently had no trust into that movie from the start.
