I saw a video the other day about one big task was to not let go. I cant imagine how far these dogs would have gotten if they let go

Meredith Story :
I caught a team who had broken their gangline this way one time - coworker driving a four wheeler got me up beside them, and I dove off and hung onto the line, digging my toes into the ground to slow them down 🙈 12 dogs, and little 150lb (at the time) me, but it worked!

Almost every musher has been in this situation before 😂 I know I have a few times when out with my grandma as a kid definitely wasn’t fun getting all my snow gear full of snow and being cold still being 5 miles from the truck 😩

as an animal lover/vegan who has been trying to unpack the difference between the messaging coming out of animal rights groups like PETA from the messaging of pro Iditarod people about dog safety and happiness, seeing this video was really helpful. watching how the dogs responded to being stopped, and seeing all of the tail wagging and straining to run supports the opinion I've been leaning toward that the dogs are generally into it (I know they have regular safety/health checks too).
