@aqua.and.chill: Japan Blue Blonde Endler Guppies 🐟💛💙 Many of you asked what kind of fish these are — so here’s some background. This strain is a selective hybrid line, created by crossbreeding Endler guppies (Poecilia wingei) with common guppies (Poecilia reticulata) and stabilizing the look through generations of selective breeding. The well-known Japan Blue metallic coloration is a result of this process. The blonde gene reduces dark pigmentation, giving the fish their lighter body tone. Guppies are often described as beginner fish, but this is only true with proper planning. When males and females are kept together, they reproduce very quickly. Without separating the sexes, multiple aquariums are needed — otherwise population control becomes almost impossible. Beautiful fish, but they come with responsibility. #aquarium #aquascape #nature #plants #fish
