@trying.to.guitar: I had a client drop of this Warmoth Tele for some work, and now I am going to get it all wired up. This guitar is going to have a standard tele bridge pickup and a wide range humbucker in the neck that will be splittable with a push/pull pot. What I am doing here is creating a path to ground that will send the series link to ground when the knob is pulled up. Sending that signal to ground bypasses one of the coils in the humbucker, giving you single coil action. In order to do a coil split, you will need a humbucker with a three or four conductor lead. You can convert a two conductor humbucker to four conductor, but that requires some pickup surgery, which I don't recommend trying if you are not comfortable working on pickups. Something really cool about this pickup specifically, is that I am pretty sure that it came from the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop, which means that whoever originally ordered it was able to customize the pickup to their preferences and that the pickup was made specifically for them. I continued soldering all of the connection points, making sure to keep the wiring clean along the way. These Tele Customs have a lot of long leads, and if you are not tidy in your work, they can make fitting the guard onto the body very difficult. Once I got the guard all wired up, it was time to install the bridge, which houses the bridge pickup and get that wired in as well. Let me know in the comments if you want to see a more in-depth description of coil splitting and different splitting options.I did make the absent-minded mistake of switching the pickup hot leads with the switch leads, but ended up fixing those off camera. Outside of that, this process went really well and I was left with a really clean, and perfectly functioning harness.
