She seems like the lady you’d “get stuck next to” at a dinner party then two seconds into talking to her you’d realize she’s exponentially cooler than you and you’d spend the rest of the night hoping she’d want to be your friend knowing all the while she doesn’t

"The subjective taste of people at the time" truly helps you shift perspectives when viewing history.

This is going to be happening with data soon too, there will be so much lost because capitalism dictates that knowledge must be held hostage for profit

Archiving matters. Are you obsessed with That Thing? Archive it. Archive it with context. Encourage others to archive Their Thing.

My AP History teacher would say the modern equivalent of ancient texts from Kings and Royalty would be like reading the President's Twitter feed 😂.

It happened to early film. It happened to early computer programs. It happens to large institutional data sets.

What makes this even more interesting is that those people’s thoughts, feelings, and biases had a direct link to choosing what was worth keeping, and all of that shapes everything we know now like the butterfly effect. So interesting

We’re about to lose a huge amount of human knowledge, and almost nobody is talking about it. So much of the internet’s best information lives on personal websites, niche blogs, and small YouTube channels run by one person. When that person dies, the domain expires, the hosting bill stops getting paid, the channel goes inactive and years of hard-earned knowledge just disappears.

I’m busy digitising a local government archive. Church records from the 1400s. 30million items, we can only digitise a tiny proportion. Future digital archives will reflect 21st century priorities.
