Matriarchy results in mud huts and no running water. Women should not be in charge

I don't think matrilineal descent is enough to consider a society to be a matriarchy, but honestly I'm not sure what would be enough to consider it. I feel like the concept of matriarchy is like this vanishing horizon. It's hard to pin down.

Matrilinealism and matriarchy are two different things. Matriarchy has been next to non existent in Africa.

The Akan well except on group are matrilineal so the Asantehene(King of the Asante) is a man but it comes through the mother's line & Queen Yaa Asantewaa led war against Britain. Queen Nzinga of Angola led troops. Dahomey had the Amazons- women warriors( fr fiction think the Dora Milaje). Also I am Jamaica, our only heroine Nanny of the Maroons from the Asante led the Windward Maroons against the British organising tactics during the First Maroon War from 1720- 1739. Africa's systems are complex

I am am mostly Akan (Fante, Akuapem and Ashanti)and we are matriarchal. Like my uncle was a chief through my grandmother but my brothers and can’t inherit the throne because my dad is a man but my aunts son can. On my moms side she could be akuapemhema (queen) because of her mom and so can I but the daughters of my brothers can’t because they are men. In alot of Akan societies there is a stool for the Queen and King inherited by different families so you can only become king or queen by being born into the family.

It's pretty crazy how anti-intellectualism has looped around to have people that societies would be less flawed if everyone in power had a specific identity

its natural for humans to follow patrilineal inheritance rather than matrilineal. males are the only sex that have their y haplo passed down from their father it isnt passed on to their daughters that means their daughters children will not have their y haplogroup basically they arent his descendants. and thats why the sons are his descendants as they carry the y haplogroup and pass it down.
