FAQ’s for HOW TO GROW CITRUS IN POTS: 🍊1. Pot Size Size of container will determine size of tree. Larger the pot, larger the tree. Get a pot that’s at least twice the size of your plant. Also make sure it has drainage holes at the bottom. 🍊2. Dolly & Drip Tray Place pot on a heavy duty dolly (basically a plant caddy with wheels) so you can move it inside/ outside, and don’t forget to add a saucer of drip tray at the bottom so water doesn’t damage your floor. 🍊3. Pine Bark Nuggets Fill bottom 1/4th of the pot with pine bark nuggets to help with drainage. Also saves on overall cost of soil. 🍊4. Organic Potting Soil with Perlite or Sand Use potting soil that is light and fluffy and has ingredients like perlite or sand mixed it. Otherwise use cactus soil, or amend soil with sand for good drainage. If you’re adding sand, be sure it’s 1 part sand to 2 parts soil. 🍊5. Citrus Fertilizer Add 2 to 3 handfuls of citrus fertilizer before planting. 🍊6. Soil Level Do not bury the stem of your citrus plant in soil. It should be at the same level as the pot. 🍊6. Indoor or Outdoor? I keep my citrus plants outside in summer and bring them indoors when temperatures fall below 55 or 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Whatever you do, do NOT overwater your citrus plants. They do not like being in water-logged soil. Fertilize them monthly and have a bit of patience. Plants typically bear fruits in their 2nd or 3rd year.
