That’s super interesting because China’s experiencing a surge in local designers and they’re buying more domestically than they ever have. I wonder if price is a factor. LVMH brands are only getting more insane with their price points and meanwhile these new Chinese designer brand are producing high quality products are more reasonable mid tier price points and that seems to be appealing.

The loss of the Chinese market will be dear to high fashion because if you spent enough time around the wealthy Chinese they truly embrace high fashion and design . Lvmh stop trying to appeal to to a Chinese base you’ll either get logos slapped everywhere and or very classic design cos sales matter at the end of the day

As a designer working with china for 30 years China notoriously copies designs & lacked any talent until recent years where the government is pushing the sale of brands made & designed in China. Will they ever surpass the design capabilities of Europe -I doubt it & to lose the art of Couture would be a travesty.

The play for leverage Asia for growth is not surprising or new. Hermes is primarily an Asian market brand with places like China and Japan making up the majority of their revenue in so much as the American and EU markets combine are no match now for Asia. Add into that the undeniable headwinds in the US market and it only makes sense that LVMH must diversify away from the dependence on the US market.

I partly agree with this. Yes they are thinking of their economic interests but as a consumer I do think this runway was very appealing to the west too. I personally loved it .

When I was in Japan this spring there was a huge retrospective at the museum in Osaka showcasing how LV was inspired by Japan’s cultural heritage… super interesting history they are tying themselves to this heritage!
