2x pivot over the past year from Cybersecurity background -> Sports industry -> Marketing in Real estate. The journey was tough, but very possible! My inital field was over saturated and changing direction in this job market was the best bet vs complacency. Learn a new skill, prepare, and have a plan.

I’m so glad I serves a God who can do anything! Currently in a pivot and God has in fact exceeded my expectations with this pivot. Not saying this isn’t helpful information, but some people need to hear encouragement. I believe two things can be true at the same time.

1000%. Companies are prioritizing proficiency over potential. It’s not impossible though. One of my clients did a pivot after being laid off and landed a job that aligned with exactly what she wanted and that will be a great stepping stone for her career. That said, it did take 16 months. People need to know this!

This advice was like taking a spoonful of medicine. It tasted terrible going down, but in the end I know it’s good for me. As an elder millennial, I just have to say this is just so incredibly unfair. 😫 We entered the workforce during the recession of 2009, got through the pandemic as working parents of young children, and now after 18yrs of being in the workforce I finally make it to the corporate office… and then get let go. Perfect timing with inflation and AI taking over. It’s never been normal for us 😭.

Isn’t that true in any job market? A pivot is always going to be more difficult if you’re competing against people with experience - that’s a given. Don’t tell us it’s going to be difficult, we already KNOW that, tell us how to overcome it!
