@letsbetechs: One of the methods I use to chase low voltage shorts. Couple useful things here. How I handle batteries constantly being put in a stat that utilizes a common. No matter how often you tell them not to. It just delays them realizing they have an issue and delays young techs on diagnostics. We also trace a bit of wiring in the wiring diagram. When trial and erroring the stat wires, there is no right or wrong, most commonly it is found in the red wire, but I myself always save it for last. No rhyme or reason other than I don't want it to be the red, so maybe due to dread. And I guess there is a rhyme. But weed eaters are color blind! After pulling on wires and losing the active short, I show a trick I learned from watching a video, to use your megohmeter to assist in locating shorts. Unhook both sides of what you are testing, check it to ground. Hope passing this info along this proves helpful! #hvac #hvacapprentice #hvactechnician #hvaclife #hvactroubleshooting

Could have eliminated the whole troubleshooting process. If it’s a Goodman heat pump, the low pressure switch wires lay on that cap tube and rub through…. Every single one of them. We don’t even charge people to take care of the problem anymore because it’s a manufacturers defect.

This is a great video broken down on troubleshooting a low-voltage issue. Thank you for taking the time and posting this. This was very educational.

Why not disconnect and check to ground if its shorted or even check ohms?

Here’s my question. You ran the meager at 1000volts. Does that not affect the pressure switch with the voltage potentially going through it. I understand there is like 1ma. But still can’t that voltage hurt the switch at all

Sherlock Holmes has nothing on you. such a great video on how to deduce which wire is shorted. I love these videos. I'm retired and out of the business but these videos should be a must watch at HVAC School.

The wire routing inside of these heat pump units is atrocious. Our heat pump had a wire that was touching the main pump tube. It rubbed through and arched a hole in the tube and leaked out all the Freon. Had to replace the whole system at $20,000.

Bro just use the multimeter and check continuity between pressure switch terminals and ground

We had the same problem on a Lennox. It was a needle in a hay stack. The wire was on the TXV pipe. We also had the wire cause a refrigerant leak in the pipe.

ill take a jumper at the t stat and quickly jump r to each of my terminals until I see the spark. beats pulling all the wire nuts.
