As someone with an anxious attachment and is avoidant when I’m overwhelmed. I had no idea and I thought I had to earn love and I chased and tried to fix a lot. But I realised that it was never balanced and I never had balanced relationships around me including family. I do believe Avoidants are empathetic I’ve seen it however they lack capacity. Once they feel needed or things get real for them is when they withdraw because they feel they have a loss of independence. Whether they’re avoidant or narcissistic their behaviour was harmful to you, and that had an impact on you. So I don’t think they’re consciously aware until they themselves realise something needs to chance and that’s when they have the opportunity to get the help. Otherwise the cycle repeats for a avoidant because anything you avoid does come back around even if it’s with another person. The patterns are the same just a different face.
