It’s so irritating to me that people get mad at the one establishing boundaries to keep them safe. ESPECIALLY a stranger on the internet saying that to you 🙄🙄

I cut my family off and it’s so difficult. It’s probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done but if people can’t acknowledge how horrible I was treated then I can’t continue faking a relationship.

Biology means nothing. It does not give you the right to hurt those your supposed to love. life is far too short and precious to accept anything but positivity, unconditional love from those in our life and it works both ways. first though we have to love ourselves and have boundaries. protect your peace of mind. the rest will follow. surround yourself with those who love you and bring out the best in you. not easy, i know! But value yourself.

Also a nurse who is no contact with my mum because she’s a narcissist. People thought I was crazy when I first did it, then my mum turned on them and now they see it.

forgiving them and moving when they can't take accountability is putting you through the same toxic cycle that's hurting you! boundaries are important for your own sake 💕

but you’re an adult as well… once you’ve navigated through your own emotions you have to be selfish and prioritize yourself and your well being. so sorry that you’ve had to make that decision but very proud of you for doing so! i know that must be difficult. you are so strong!!!!

I very much limit contact with my dad for this reason. I can’t bring myself to completely cut him out though because I’m so close to my mom..

You don’t owe putting yourself in abusive situations over and over just because someone shares your DNA. Abusive family members always have flying monkeys to pressure you to be the bigger person while the actual abuser never seems to face any accountability from anyone. People who haven’t been in these family dynamics just don’t get it.

It is NEVER the child’s fault no matter how old. I’m estranged from my father as well. My mom and are always on and off JUST LIKE A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP. 😤

I totally get this, it’s been about 15 years since I’ve spoken to my parents. It’s sad, but we have to do what we need to to protect our mental health and peace.

I've done the same thing, and some days it's easy then theirs others where you just want your mom and her help but know you can't go to them because of how they act

Yes girl! 👏🏻 “but he’s still your dad” mmh, if I need protect my peace from others who treat me terribly, then I will do the same for my parent. Because my parent should know better. As a grown adult you have the right to cut off anyone who doesn’t have your best interest in mind, including your parents! Hold your boundaries 🫶🏻

I cut my biological dad off 12 years ago, then slowly after that his entire side of his family because they didn’t believe the abuse he put me and my mother through. Greatest choice I ever made. My step dad has been my dad now for 12 years and I wouldn’t change a thing about who I chose to be my family.

Girl, I’ve been no contact with my mom for 6 years… and the rest of the family for 1 year. My dad is passed. You are correct in your decision I couldn’t agree more.

I changed therapists several times trying to get to the bottom of "if I keep losing friends and cutting contact with family it has to be a me problem" before I was finally able to accept that the "problem" is me knowing I deserve to be treated with respect and kindness. It still gets to me some days because the cycle is so vicious.
