His ideas of nutrition, or REAL nutrition science? His ideas, not based on facts, are killing Americans.

How about not having the insurance company decide that we only need 15 min appointments

Who is dictating that a doctor's appointment is only 10 minutes? That's a massive problem right there.

We need to start with the 🏫. As kids we should have dedicated nutrition hours and the lunches children eat should be a reflection of that.

at least someone in our govt is at least talking about and promoting nutrition and genuinely wanting the citizens of this country to be healthier. the goal of everyone should be to need to visit a Dr as little as possible. but people don't make the choices necessary to achieve this goal

So many insurance companies do not approve people seeing a nutritionist. I have had several different insurance companies that would not allow anyone to see a nutritionist. Sad

Assuming the dietitian understands basic nutrition and isn’t working from the “government guidelines.”

I like your term, "Multidisciplinary team." I think this needs to become the mindset when thinking medicine. Keep up the great work and education!

I’m unclear on what a nutritionist would provide for the masses. It seems that a large swath of dietary issues are from excess calories, but there isn’t a lot of input from a doctor that is needed to address that issue. Simple guidance like - “use a food tracker, weigh everything for two weeks, try to hit 2200 calories per day” would be the primary recommendation unless someone has a specific issue.

I’m fortunate that my gastroenterologist received a phd in nutritional problems of people with similar issues to me. As you say, there’s no time for her to discuss this at length but she has pointed me in the direction of some great materials to research myself

I feel like MD programs must already have that though? My doctor of physical therapy program had a nutrition class so that would be over 40 hours on its own plus in one of our pharmacology classes there was a lot of time also spent on vitamins and supplements especially absorption, dosing, malnutrition, overdosing… I have a feel Mr brain worm didn’t even bother doing surveys of medical schools. He just trusts that when influencers constantly say doctors don’t know about “root causes” or “nutrition” they must be right 🙄

the main issue is the 10min consultation....why so little? a regular visit forn10 minutes without insurance is 200 plus dollars. make the appointments 30 minutes at the same price.

Exactly a multi-disciplinary approach is best. We can’t expect one discipline to do everything.

Is nutrition really all that complicated? Lots of fruits and vegetables, nuts. Source of protein, no dairy pop, fruit juices, very limited alcohol, and baked goods.

The issue is the lack of time with patients. If it’s a private practice the PCM should be able to dictate how much time he/she has with the patient. My dog gets more 1on1 time with their vet. Also can schedule checkups on the weekends which is unheard of for people primary care.

Completely agree with this. By allowing people access to professional dietitians as part of their treatment you would likely create more jobs in the field and grow the profession. Got to be a positive. I have Crohn’s disease myself and while self education and a little trial and error has helped me improve my situation along with the medication I feel like access to a dietitian would have been a great boon when I was newly diagnosed. After all, the medical professionals are doing their part so if I can do my part diet-wise then it will likely improve health outcomes for me as a patient.

All providers I worked with would send patients to either weight loss management or nutrition counseling. If they were diabetic, they’d send them to diabetic education.
