When someone joins the TikTok Creator Rewards Program, they agree to TikTok’s terms. In those terms it explains that the money shown in the program is considered rewards, not guaranteed earnings. The rules also say TikTok can review content and reduce, invalidate, remove or withhold rewards if the content doesn’t meet their policies, including things like low-quality or unoriginal content. TikTok also states in the program terms that they can make the final decision about whether content qualifies for rewards. So if they decide the content doesn’t meet the standards, they can invalidate the rewards under the agreement that was accepted when joining the program. The key thing legally is that it isn’t framed as wages or guaranteed earnings. It’s a discretionary rewards program governed by their terms of service. And since creators agreed to those terms when joining the program, it will make legal action difficult.
