@officialkaizenlab: Imagine f-16 sized hypersonic unmanned aircraft… Thats what Hermeus is developing through its experimental Quarterhorse flight test program. The aircraft is powered by the Chimera engine, a turbine-based combined-cycle propulsion system. In turbine mode, the engine accelerates the aircraft to roughly Mach 3 using conventional compressor stages. At higher speeds the system transitions to ramjet operation, where incoming airflow compresses air for combustion without rotating compressors. This architecture enables runway-operable hypersonic flight while avoiding rocket propulsion. Quarterhorse prototypes are being used to validate propulsion transitions, thermal protection strategies, and aerodynamic stability in the hypersonic regime. The long-term objective is Halcyon, a Mach-5 passenger aircraft capable of reducing transoceanic flight times to just a few hours. Hypersonic flight isn’t just about speed. It’s about propulsion physics, thermal engineering, and integrated airframe design operating at extreme conditions. 🚀 Link in bio for merch & accessories 📥 DM for Credit or Removal 📸: @ #military #engineering #militarytech #aircraft #aerospace
