I think Ben surviving an entire zombie apocalypse only to be killed by police at the end is also worthy of discussion as well.

I feel like the racial allegory in Disney ZOMBIES just doesn’t work as well as the others cuz it implied they were actually bad but only became good when the humans had full control over them using their wrist bands, almost justifying segregation and racial inequality bc their natural behaviour without the wristbands actually puts people in danger.

I'm curious to hear your take on how the Resident Evil (Games) are using their zombies as commentary on Eugenics, White Supremacy, and Colonialism.

I would love to hear your opinion on why zombie movies from eastern cultures are so different from zombie movies in western cultures. I’ve found that in non-English zombie media there tends to be a stronger emphasis on the survivors cooperating with each other for the best chance of survival whereas in English speaking zombie media (mostly American) there tends to be a strong distrust in fellow survivors and an unwillingness to work together unless theres some sort of personal gain. It’s very interesting.

I had a teacher in my University saying zombies are also a class horror monster, comparing them to COUNT Dracule or DOCTOR Frankenstain, meanwhile Zombies are a mob, the fear towards the common class opposed to the fear towards the elites.

it’s sad to see that the “evil man of colour attacking white women” stereotype is so old and still well and alive

Some of the older zombie stories were also allegorical for capitalism, and I think there's a clear modern representation of that in Train to Busan as an allegory for Korea's competitive work culture

Gonna add on; I think a big reason the recent 28 Years Later movies were so divisive is because they're directly challenging traditional norms about masculinity at a time when we have deeply insecure male leaders puffing out their chests and proclaiming war with names like "Operation Epic Fury".

Definitely make a part two! I would particularly like to hear your take on "28 Days Later" having a black strong female character surrounded by white characters.

Romero didn't so much deny it as much as say it was accidental. The character wasn't written specifically black, they just hired the best actors they could get for the parts. But, he was being pretty disingenuous, because he definitely leaned into it once it was there.

oh please make a pt 2! I took a zombies in media class in college, and we even debated if the Somnambulist in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari could be considered a zombie.
