The Nissan GT‑R NISMO represents the most extreme, track-focused version of the legendary Nissan GT‑R, a car that has earned global recognition for combining supercar-level performance with advanced engineering and everyday usability. Developed by Nissan Motor Corporation and its high-performance division NISMO (Nissan Motorsports), the GT-R NISMO stands as the ultimate evolution of the R35 GT-R platform. Since the R35 generation debuted in 2007, the car has been continuously refined, and the NISMO variant represents the pinnacle of these improvements, incorporating racing technology, aerodynamic innovation, and advanced powertrain engineering.
At the heart of the Nissan GT-R NISMO lies a specially tuned version of Nissan’s famous VR38DETT engine. This 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 produces around 600 horsepower and 652 Nm (481 lb-ft) of torque, making it significantly more powerful than the standard GT-R. The engine is hand-assembled by expert technicians known as Takumi, master craftsmen who individually build each engine in a controlled environment. This meticulous process ensures high precision, reliability, and performance. The engine’s turbochargers are derived from those used in Nissan’s GT3 race cars, allowing faster response and increased airflow, which improves acceleration and throttle sensitivity.
The GT-R NISMO also features Nissan’s advanced ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system, which distributes power between the front and rear wheels to maximize traction. Combined with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, the system enables extremely rapid gear changes and impressive acceleration. As a result, the GT-R NISMO can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 2.5 seconds, placing it firmly in the realm of elite supercars. Despite its immense power, the car maintains remarkable stability and control thanks to sophisticated electronic systems and a carefully balanced chassis.
Aerodynamics play a major role in the performance of the Nissan GT-R NISMO. Extensive wind-tunnel testing helped engineers design aggressive aerodynamic components such as a large carbon-fiber rear wing, redesigned front bumper, extended side skirts, and rear diffuser.
