Most students write 30 pages of literature review and still can't answer: "So what is the actual gap your study fills?" Because they never learned the 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀. Here are the 𝟳 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗚𝗮𝗽 every researcher must know: 📌 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗽 Existing theories don't explain observed phenomena. Fix: Conduct research to test or build new theoretical frameworks. 📌 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗽 The methods used in prior studies are insufficient or flawed. Fix: Combine or refine methods to address those limitations. 📌 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗽 Missing data or evidence needed to fully understand a phenomenon. Fix: Run experiments, surveys, or longitudinal studies to fill it. 📌 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗽 No consensus on key definitions or concepts in the field. Fix: Standardize terms and build clear conceptual frameworks. 📌 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗽 Research hasn't kept pace with recent developments. Fix: Study current phenomena to restore continuity of understanding. 📌 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗽 Findings are limited to specific regions and can't be generalized. Fix: Expand research to underrepresented geographical areas. 📌 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗽 Prior research was ignored or not built upon adequately. Fix: Conduct a thorough review and build on existing findings. --- 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲. Examiners know all seven. When you can 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗮𝗽, 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 — your proposal stops being a summary and starts being an 𝗮𝗿𝗴𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. 💬 Save this.
