EXACTLY! “I went to the ballet and it was sold out!” You went to The Nutcracker during the holidays, which many ballet companies put on so they can try to FUND THE REST OF THEIR SEASON THAT YOU DONT GO TO! Saying this as a retired ballerina myself that was also raised by a retired professional ballerina whose company closed due to lack of funding 🙃

you’re completely right, but that’s not what he said. he said nobody cares and people do care, this mith of “nobody cares” is what keeps the investment away. just because is not popular as football or pop music doesn’t mean nobody cares. people are barely making enough money to live. if more people had the luxury of time to go to the theater more people would consume those forms of art. the problem isn’t lack of interest is capitalism as usual

Ironically opera and ballet could both be MUCH more accessible (viewer-wise) by doing more streamed shows at movie theaters. Would also be great for Broadway!
