Our roomette on the Southwest Chief didn't have the toilet or sink, just crude steps to the top bunk. We had to use the communal bathroom down the hall. I'm not sure which scenario is worse.

I went across country and back in the 80’s. Left out of Hartford. Took 2 weeks each time. Great trip!
