It’s a loss; a loss for both the nation and the parliament. A functioning government also needs a strong opposition, and he could have been that voice. He might not have had many seats behind him, but even as an individual he could have been one of the strongest figures in opposition. We don’t need a “Modi-style government” here. We don’t need BJP-style politics here. And if there were ever even a slight drift in that direction, he could have stood as the counterweight, much like Rahul Gandhi does in India.
