@cultivatingboldspaces: Replying to @potsandpansexuals1thankyou for your comment, it reminded me never to skip out on the nuance when it comes to this topic! #misogyny #misandry #trans #butch #bioessentialism
I feel like the largest targets of misandry are not the most problematic men, but rather the men who try to step outside of the stereotype of masculinity, which only ultimately defends and reinforces misogyny.

This particular brand of misandry also mainly benefits the men who are predatory, because it frames predatory behaviour as the default and puts the onus on women to protect themselves rather than on men to be better, therefore it circles right back round to misogyny

I don't want to imply that my experience as a gay man is the same as any woman's under patriarchy or that gay men can't be misogynistic bc they can and are. I also know that I enjoy priviliges as a man than women don't but at the same time, misandry assumes that my experience under patriarchy is the same as a straight man's when I've been both ostracized by men for being gay and ostracized by women for being a man. I've never really felt completely welcome or included unless I'm around queer people who aren't as reductive about people's gender.

I do feel saying "masculinity in women" translates to "not being pretty enough" is too easy though. It also includes being emotionally stunted, being boarish and crude, looking unkept, and a bunch of other negative traits attributed to being a man.

I disagree with people targeting people perceived as “masculine women” with misandry. It’s more accurate to describe it as misogyny because it’s meant to keep them in their place and prevent that masculine presentation. To have masculine presentation as someone society perceives as a woman is to not fulfill “female standards” in a way that society wants leading to misogynistic backlash to put that person in their place, reinforcing the hierachy that places women and femininity below men and masculinity. The reactionary bioessentialist ideas that paint women as soft, nurturing, etc. and men as violent, unempathetic, etc. is also not a function of misandry, it’s misogyny meant to reinforce that women have no agency, instead having things done to them by the men that they are meant to serve.

I believe misandry often manifests as apathy and as apathy towards men's complexity and their lives. We're so quick to send them off to war or give condolences to the mother, we all too often forget the son/dad is a peeson too who has feelings and far too often don't know how to actually express then

i think what a lot of people miss here is the deeply rooted conditioning that is “i can’t do that because im a woman” at its core it’s misogyny, because by definition that’s adhering to the patriarchy, that’s not deeply rooted fact that “she’s better than a man” like how men are taught growing up. also i just want to say you did a really good job clarifying because even i was a bit confused.

So, something I’ve seen recently is discourse surrounding lesbians who don’t want to date bi women, and a resurfacing conversation about “gold star lesbians”. Would misandry also be applicable here?

I think you put this in more human terms than how it’s usually explained. It’s most common to try to explain how misogyny is systemic while misandry is not, or at least not yet. I think your explanation might be able to reach more people.

i'm so glad for this video, as a transmasc person. it often feels like getting the worst of both worlds, receiving misogyny in everyday life, and then misandry in supposedly feminist/leftist spaces. and that misandry is regularly used against the easiest targets, men of other minorities

Than you for the clarification. I'm still not convinced that there could be a woman completely outside of scope of misandry, but it is reasonable to assume many would not encounter it often, and probably some won't encounter it ever.

I think of it like misandry feeds off of misogyny like the bird who lives and feeds off of hippos since misogyny is ever present but misandry is a weird side effect the patriarchy didn’t expect

this is one of the biggest divisions that seperare feminist women from being able to empethize and understand and communicate with men. i think more men would be feminist if this issue was more understood

The key difference between the two is that when it is perceived misogyny there is no nuance even if a women is objectively doing something bad its never on the women it's just internalized misogyny, and if it's objectively bad and aimed at men you down play it you say it's not a big deal
