The ‘trifecta’ refers to the well-documented co-occurrence of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Despite being classified as separate conditions, they cluster together at rates that have led researchers to investigate a shared underlying mechanism. In a 2015 study (Cheung & Vadas, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology), 66% of patients with hEDS and POTS also met criteria for MCAS.
