@looplabtt: A truly unsettling perspective on the near future: that 3-to-10-year horizon where entry-level roles disappear. 😬 The core idea suggests that if AI takes over all the easy work, the foundational steps of any career—where you get paid to learn and inevitably suck at something—vanish. How does anyone start? This is a massive shift in the career ladder we need to be talking about now! #FutureOfWork #AIEconomy #EntryLevel #CareerShift #Automation

Unironic fantastic advocation for unions. If we don't defend our right to grow and earn, no one will. And if the government strips away the bargaining power of unions, we will teach them why unions were initially created.

Just a friendly reminder that businesses under capitalism operate in a very shortsighted manner and will choose short term gain over long term sustainability if there is no legal obligation to do so.

100% this also includes the world of music and art where AI will most definitely replace low budget jobs that normal people fresh out of school would do. It makes it so long term the next generation of artists/musicians/composers will never have had the opportunities to hone their skills & it’ll effect the entirety of the industry

If things are not brought under control and you don’t have at least 5 years experience today, you will never have a job.

It won’t be a problem immediately. There will be less jobs yes, and it will affect unemployment, but the scariest part is when people start retiring and there is nobody to fill the void. Can you imagine calling your electrician, and they go “we can’t get someone out to you for eight months because we are booked out”

My work starts you at minimum wage and then expects you to be good at the job within a week. It wasn't always like this, and I know I wouldn't have this job if that's how it was when I was hired. It's not just jobs that they think AI can replace. So many work places don't want to train anymore and instead hire those that already have experience but don't want to pay for that experience.

the real issue with apprenticeships, coming from someone who has done two of them, is that they pay like dog shit but want you available 12 hours a day. So even if you are willing to get paid poorly to learn something new, you have no time to go do any other job to help you pay bills in the meantime. Another issue is that the guys that are closing in on retirement age don't actually want to teach you anything.

Already here. I keep seeing "entry level" with 3 to 5 years experience. Which no college grad has even if they got an internship every year since they started.

Companies don’t want to train people. People who work at these companies don’t want to train people because the companies don’t pay them to train people, they just hope that they do. People retire. Nobody gets trained.

What needs to change isn’t protection of currently what we define as entry level roles. Let innovation happen. A complete rework of how the education system works to adapt makes significantly more sense and is more competitive. Highschool and college needs to adjust to fit the world, trying to force companies to not take advantage of new and better technology is futile.
