I’m a first gen. When I started my associates right after high school I didn’t know what I was doing and was pretty much lost. I was taking 3 or fewer classes by the time when I saw my mistake. I tried to take 6 classes, but I got held again for my pre-reqs. Never failed a class, but due to poor planning and prerequisites, it took me 4 years at 22 to earn my associate's degree. And now I’m at UH for MECE and it’s looking like I’ll be finishing late 25- early 26. I'm 2 years behind and I feel like a failure.

I took a two gap years (covid gave me heart attacks and heart disease yipeeee) I also pay for college outta pocket so I saved and started around 20, I change my major from bio to chem and then added engineering on just this year. So my 4 year is gonna be a good 5-7. I’ve noticed that this is actually normal. As a transfer student going to uni I realized that it’s more common than not. Especially with external factors and courses only being available during a specific semester and switching majors etc. I still get insecure about it but at the end of the day the time is gonna fly and all that matters is you’re getting an education an if it takes more time so what

I agree. I'm going to graduate at 6.5 years and I'm already a Senior software engineer, I have friends who graduate on time and don't have a job or they're barely juniors
