It’s so funny how people can look at someone who’s attractive, outgoing, funny, and gets attention and automatically assume they must have twelve people in rotation, three situationships, two backups, and an entire waiting list of applicants. 😭 Meanwhile, that person is sitting at home thinking, I actually do not want to meet another human being. I want ONE person who loves me and knows my food order. Getting attention and actually enjoying dating are two completely different things. You can have plenty of options and still hate the process of starting over with strangers: the same introductory conversations, figuring out intentions, wondering whether someone is genuinely interested or just attracted to you, explaining your entire life story again, and eventually discovering some completely unexpected incompatibility after you’ve already started liking them. After a while, the idea of having a “roster” sounds less exciting and more like administrative work. 😭 Some people genuinely enjoy dating around, meeting new people, and keeping things casual, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that when everyone involved understands what it is. But other people can receive plenty of attention and still be deeply monogamous at heart. They don’t want ten people giving them 10% of what they’re looking for. They want one person they trust enough to give 100% to. One person they can be soft with. One person they can annoy all day, fall asleep beside, call when something happens, send every ridiculous thought to, and occasionally become a little spoiled around because they know they’re safe. And wanting to be “babied” doesn’t have to mean wanting someone to parent you or handle every responsibility in your life. Sometimes it just means, I spend enough of my life being capable and independent; I want one relationship where I can put my guard down and be taken care of sometimes. Bring me food. Pull me closer. Tell me everything is okay. Remember the little things. Let me be dramatic for five minutes and then kiss my forehead. 😭 There’s a huge difference between needing somebody because you can’t function alone and wanting a person whose love gives you somewhere safe to soften. So yes, maybe everybody assumes you have endless options. The funny part is that you don’t even want the options. You want the search to be over. You don’t want everybody to want you—you just want the right person to choose you, and to finally have one person you’re excited to keep choosing back.
