I loved the animation, it’s mind blowing but, sorry to say, I found the story really boring. I only watched it because a friend recommended it to me.

The thing about nearly bankrupting the studio is a myth. Madhouse’s money troubles at the time were most likely a result of both the 2008 financial crisis and the incubating bank of Japan going bankrupt in 2010, among other things. Also the budget isn’t publicly available (the $30 mil thing came from an article with no source) and the $8 mil box office gross was for the 2007 American movie of the same name.
