@noahmorton.pt: About 4 years ago I dislocated my shoulder doing something stupid in college. It stayed out for over an hour before the ER put it back in. The injury tore my labrum and broke a piece of bone off my glenoid (shoulder socket). I had surgery to repair it and spent about 6 months getting back to normal. A couple years later I re-dislocated it cliff jumping in Malta and completely failed the surgery. The labrum tore again and the bone fragment came off a second time. By the time I got home to have it looked at, the fragment had disintegrated — leaving me with permanent bone loss in my shoulder socket. Life got busy and I kept putting off another surgery. Since then I’ve had 15–20 more dislocations and now need a much bigger procedure to fix the instability. I’ll be getting it done when I move back to the States. The hardest part is that it limits things I love doing — especially anything overhead. The lesson: you can’t outrun how you treat your body. Eventually it catches up. When you’re young it’s easy to think injuries will just heal and everything will be fine. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don’t. Fitness isn’t just about looking good right now — it’s about protecting your quality of life decades from now. The goal isn’t just to be fit today. It’s to still be capable 30–40 years from now. #shoulderdislocation #tornlabrum #latarjet #longevity

Do you get massage therapy ? I wonder if all the muscles are tight around the shoulder joint trying to stabilize it . Also pt to stabilize.

Get the surgery to tighten your shoulder! I had problems with my shoulder dislocating multiple times a year, never tore anything. Got the surgery and it’s the best decision I have ever made.

I dislocated my knee once when I was 18 and just popped it back myself out of sheer panic, wore a store-bought brace bandage for about a week and never had it looked at because I felt okay… now that I’m 30 my knee can tell when it’s going to rain and my other leg and back are all messed up from years of overcompensating 🙃

My partner has a very unstable shoulder from multiple dislocations (all stemming from a fall with impact many years ago). Once he partially dislocated it when he sneezed while he had his arm resting on the open windowsill in the car 😳. I sympathize with you!

I felt this deeply. I also a bony Bankart lesion in my right shoulder for 5+ years before I finally got the surgery. Thankfully it’s pretty solid now. I also had a regular bakart lesion on my left shoulder that I now need to go and get surgery on. The last one took me 12 months+ to fully recover. I’m not sure I’ll ever get over the trauma of having the arm subluxate so often. It’s the sort of pain that hits the reset button on your brain.

I’m five months post major reconstruction. Got dropped five ft in the surf. Limited movement like 80% of what I used to have but my surgeon was an absolute legend who only did shoulders as a specialist. Make sure you see an ortho who just does shoulders/elbows. I feel great, and I know I’m going to be 100% after about a year. We just need to learn to be mindful of our movements. At no point have I felt ‘slipping’ or ‘looseness.’ I’m not going to compromise on my life and what I can do, I will get better.

i’m in for surgery on both shoulders in about 3-4 months after waiting almost a year, dislocated both about 10-15 times each and life’s horrific especially as a young athletic person, also the mental trauma from all those injuries is taxing on anxiety of day to day life

I feel this! All my joints dislocated randomly, shoulders, knees, hips, etc. even including the small bones like in my feet. It’s not fun but I also know how to put all my joints back in place by myself since I’ve been dislocating since I was 12 years old.

My knee popped out of the socket just from going down the stairs, I made it to the last step and pop! Luckily it popped right back in, but now I deal with aches all the time 😳
