Agree. Kids shouldn’t be training their own service dogs without guidance of a professional. Also hot take kids shouldn’t be getting Malinois as service dogs

Personally I think They can train the assistance dog but there should be an adult or someone older with more experience with handling/training dogs to guide them and help them understand how to take care of a dog properly for themselves

I just think it's a first time trainer problem. like if someone never trained dogs their entire life and suddenly started at age 30 they would also be bad.

They can and should! Just not alone tho. Very important to have competent team backing them and/or completing their work on the dog cause they are bound to make mistakes

Yep!!! I’m 20, been training dogs since I was 15 (training under an ADULT QUALIFIED EXPERIENCED trainer) and only started training the SD I’ve required since i was 15 now. At 20.

I attempted to train my dog to be an assistance dog at 13. I worked with a "professional trainer" spent over 10 thousand dollars on training and all it did was make my (previously well socialised and confident) dog scared to go anywhere outside my neighbourhood
