I've tried soooooo many different brands of feed, so you can trust me when I say that this is our absolute favorite feed for our chickens...and our dairy cow, too! If you're not sure what feed to go with for your baby chicks, we are using the 18% Start Right Chick Feed ☺️ Whether we incubate chicks ourselves or get them from a hatchery, there are a few things we have to do first when putting them in the brooder. First, I make sure that everything is set up for them and that the heat plate is plugged in. I want it to already be warm when they arrive! I always dip each chick's beak into the water as I am counting them, & then immediately give them access to food. I don't add anything to the water, though I've heard that some people add apple cider vinegar. I've been using plain ol' water for years, and the birds do just fine. The next step will be moving them onto grass in a couple weeks or whenever I get tired of cleaning pine shavings out of their water! 😂 Make sure to check to see if your local feed store has Kalmbach Feeds in stock!
