@jesskbacon: I think Emerald Fennell deserves more credit as a director and if she was a man she wouldn’t be faced with this much criticism and scrutiny. There’s an element of misogyny at play towards the Wuthering Heights director and I think she also deserves flowers for the great work she’s doing on set. Here, I spoke to Alison Oliver and Margot Robbie about Wuthering Heights and Emerald Fennell as a director and they both were so impressed by how safe and comfortable she made all the actors feel on set as she’s also an actor herself. Though Wuthering Heights remains controversial, I do think Emerald doesn’t get enough credit for the work she’s doing on set to look after her actors and get the best performances out of them too. #wutheringheights #whattowatch #filmtok #saltburn #jacobelordi
She’ll always be Nurse Patsy to me😭 can’t believe she did us so dirty with Wuthering Heights

It was a visually beautiful film, but so far removed from the original it's the same as me making a movie based on "long walk to freedom" but instead of Mandela walking out of Pollsmoor, I have him join a band of Ninja's & he becomes Batman

As a film student with Promising Young Woman as a set academic text, sounds like misogyny to me. Great director with great messages powerfully executed within her films

annoying hater :
were all of the criticisms she got valid? no. but a lot of the criticisms she got were centred on her failings around the racial/class aspects of wuthering heights. to dismiss this as just misogyny is yet another example of white women using feminism to deflect from criticisms that pertain to race.

just because she's a woman, doesn't make her a feminist. the reduction of a female author's work and the minimising of several key female characters is worthy of criticism. if she was just making films inspired by the era no one would care.
