@pirate1.0: Chengdu J-20 Mighty Dragon The J-20 “Mighty Dragon” is China’s most advanced stealth fighter jet, developed by the Chengdu Aerospace Corporation for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). It is a 5th-generation stealth aircraft, designed mainly for air superiority and long-range interception of enemy aircraft like stealth fighters, tankers, and AWACS planes. The jet first flew in 2011 and officially entered service in 2017, making China the second country after the United States to field an operational stealth fighter besides the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor and the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. The J-20 has a large stealthy airframe with canards and twin engines, giving it long range and the ability to carry weapons internally to maintain low radar visibility. Early versions used Russian-influenced engines, but newer variants are being equipped with the Chinese WS-15 engines, which should allow supercruise (supersonic flight without afterburner) and better maneuverability. Its internal weapons bay can carry long-range air-to-air missiles such as the PL-15, designed to engage enemy aircraft from very far distances, making the J-20 especially dangerous to support aircraft. Strategically, the J-20 is meant to challenge U.S. air dominance in the Pacific, targeting high-value aircraft like tankers and surveillance planes rather than engaging in dogfights. It is also integrated with advanced sensor fusion, datalinks, and radar systems, allowing it to operate as part of a networked battlefield. Today, China is rapidly producing the J-20, and it is becoming the backbone of the PLAAF’s modern fighter fleet, showing how quickly China has advanced in stealth aviation. ✈️ Fun fact: The J-20 is one of the largest stealth fighters ever built, noticeably bigger than both the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor and the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, which suggests it was designed with long-range missions in mind, possibly even for striking targets far out in the Pacific. #stealth #j20 #chinaarmy
