Viola Davis said, “You are shining, Herald Loomis!” A paraphrase to playwright August Wilson’s masterpiece “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” when protagonist Herald Loomis is unshackled by his dark past and becomes the light. Actual last lines of the play by Bynum Walker: “Herald Loomis, you shining. You shining like new money!” This is my all time favorite play, so I recognized it instantly. Delroy Lindo once played Herald Loomis on Broadway and it would be AMAZING if the Denzel Washington Family gets Michael B. Jordan to play Herald Loomis when they bring “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” to the big screen like they did August Wilson’s “Fences”, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “The Piano Lesson”. Viola Davis starred in two of those films and won her first Oscar for "Fences" reprising her Tony Award winning role with her costar Denzel Washington who also directed the film. The film adaptation of “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” will be next in August Wilson’s ten plays American Century Cycle Denzel Washington will bring to the big screen in partnership with Netflix.
