This actually makes so much sense. In D1, Maleficent said to Mal “there’s a difference between mean and truly evil” after Mal stole the candy from the baby. When Mal stole the candy from the baby, Maleficent saw Uliana stealing Bridget’s cupcakes! That’s why young Maleficent was smiling and I’m sure she eventually turned against Uliana
