that's probably Seth Godin's argument about authenticity. Seth Godin was about repeatable, high-quality performance. Like concerts, surgeons, professional speakers. But authenticity is about embracing the emotions, not necessarily the coping mechanisms.

I’ve begun stating my insecurity in the moment out loud; you can’t feel shame if you verbalise the fear causing it. It’s furthered my authentic self and helped in healing, especially stopping my (already non violent ofc) temper

But isn't the best version informed by conditioning and comparison? I think the best version is a consequence of one being authentic even if that entails being authentically petty and at some point discovering that you can do better than that, organically. Not efficient but isn't as fraught with the risk of embracing a certain borrowed idea of what is a nest version.
