Didn't NSFAS release a statement last year saying student shouldn't pay deposits or top up money as it is illegal to do so?

I’m still baffled as to why doesn’t nsfas pay the rent money straight to students accounts, and then students can rent wherever they afford? Why are we restricted to only expensive nsfas accredited accommodations whereas there are affordable accommodations in Hatfield just that they aren’t accredited??

top up fees make zero sense because what is the point of nsfas covering accommodation if I'm still using out of pocket expenses to pay for the very same accommodation
