C'ElleS :
Personally when I watched your clip the first time I had the same thought as the lady, but then I watched it again and this is what I got from it. As long as you live you will be deceived, you cannot predict who, when and how but it is very likely to happen it’s life. However, recognising patterns that leads to certain behaviours or choices can give you the power to change the narrative or at least control it to some extent. So I believe both statements can coexist in the sense that yes you never really know (it’s the part of what you don’t have control over), but you can always choose yourself ( In this context it can also mean you don’t have to let anyone in if it implies to choose the lesser evil, it’s actually protecting your peace). And choosing yourself requires awareness, honesty, vulnerability. This is not me blaming myself, instead it is the ultimate form of self love and personal growth to me. Acknowledging that you have the power to decide does not remove anything from the evidence of the unknown. It’s actually through the piece of unknown that we learn and grow to make make better choices. All this to say, although context could be needed to further understand your take, it is not necessary ( for me at least), it depends on how you want to see it( although I also understand the other lady’s pov), much love😊🫶🏾.
