Umm so the restaurant doesn’t have online payment in 2026? They causing their own problems. I understand 1 bill policy but, let’s solve THIS problem by splitting the check. Some money is better than no money..

Say what you will but I’m always paying separate . . . Depending on my relationship with the birthday person, I might cover their bill but I’m not splitting a $2800 bill . . . I don’t drink so I’m definitely not paying for the whole table to drink . . .

That’s why I don’t go to dinners like that! Because my best friend did something like this and she got stuck with a very big bill at the end because people left out before paying.

anytime I get invited to a big group dinner/birthday i will bring cash and let the birthday person know my bill is separately from theirs and I give the birthday person a card with some cash to cover a portion of their meal only

Most of those is the restaurant’s fault. Those who had their money should have been allowed to pay the restaurant not been forced to send money to someone else.
