@vantrucklorryy: Most people assume the upper middle class in Singapore are the ones who feel the least financial pressure. But interestingly, they are often the group that spends the most and feels the most squeezed. Why? Because income growth usually comes with lifestyle inflation. When someone starts earning more, their environment changes. They move into larger homes, drive better cars, travel further, dine at nicer places, and place their children in more enrichment programs. None of these are “wrong” choices. In fact, they’re often seen as the natural reward of working hard. But what quietly happens is this: Expenses rise almost in tandem with income. A household earning $25k a month might not feel dramatically wealthier than a household earning $10k — because their fixed commitments grow just as quickly. Mortgage for a larger property. Higher Income Tax Private school or multiple enrichment classes. Car ownership and insurance. Frequent travel and dining. Suddenly, a very high income still leaves little room for financial flexibility. This is one of the paradoxes of wealth in Singapore: Many upper-middle-class families are asset rich, income strong, but liquidity tight. And that’s why financial planning becomes even more important at this stage. Not because they lack income, but because their lifestyle is now expensive to maintain. The real question isn’t how much you earn. It’s whether your spending is building your freedom, or quietly locking you into a lifestyle you can never step away from. The hidden rich are those who have been earning 6k their whole lives but never had the ambition to move into a bigger home. Their stacked CPF gives them a big headstart in retirement planning. These are the people who have 1-2 million cash sitting around but will never look like they do. Rich in assets is different from rich in cash. You bought that condo saying you'll sell when you retire and cash it out. Look around, how many people are disciplined enough to do that.

Not true, the middle class earning around $20k make the most money through property. The lower income have their BTO, upper class have GCB. But middle class profit a lot from new launches like Parc esta and Parc clementis and high park residences. Easily $1M in 5-10 years. They just need to be smart in how they plan their wealth as a middle income earners. And of course buy investment products from you. Will definitely be way better off than having low income.

Thats should always save half ur income n spend the rest. That way any % increase in income, ur spending increase half of that %. Controlled lifestyle inflation.

Many such cases. By the time the median fellas sell their bto (+grant+cap gainz) they would be richer than those that didn’t qualify for grants. A huge hidden “tax” on those that work a bit too hard….
