English went through a similar thing. “Mailman” to “postal worker”. “Fireman” to “firefighter”. “Policeman” to “police officer”. It is possible

You say the glottal stop in a word is unusual in German. But it’s actually not: beinhalten (be*inhaten); verändern (ver*ändern), erinnern (er*innern) etc. German has a glottal stop at every beginning of a syllable if it starts with a vowel. So it’s very common.

I’d like to add that the * and the : and the little pause you do is also meant to be inclusive to nonbinary and intersex people

I am learning German and I never thought this was difficult or anything as a person who is struggling with the German language. This seems very obvious and easy. On another note, yesterday our German teacher got pretty heated up about the word Krankenschwester. He found each and every instance of it in our work book, struck it out to correct it to Krankenpfleger., but not Krankenpfleger*innen.

I have my TikTok in German and it adds “*innen” to things like the friends or followers label and even as someone who barely knows German I can still understand what it means 😭 why are they out here saying it’s not clear language

my German teacher used to subtract points from our essays if we didn't use *innen... it was annoying the one time I forgot to write Schüler*innen instead of Schüler, but I honestly think she was right

Minor correction, Markus Söder is from the CSU, not CDU. While they act as one on the federal stage, they are separate parties.

"But it makes it more complicated"
Yes, it is.
But so is most correct academic writing.
When writing or reading a paper, there are more anoying things than a few asterisks.
If it is used in day-to-day conversations is a different topic. A lot of linguistically "wrong" things just are implied.

Glottal stops in the middle of words aren't as unusual as we always think. We just don't think about it bc it is in fact very usual in some words like Spiegelei were it makes a total different word to not use the glottal stop.

actually glotal stops in German aren't that rare, like when we connect words together that start with a vocal. Nudelauflauf is my favourite example here. it just sounds stupid if you don't use the glotal stop.
