@graycebush6: Pain relief is suicide prevention. Not because pain medication fixes everything. But because untreated pain slowly removes a person’s ability to live. Chronic pain is not just “being sore”. It is neurological, inflammatory, systemic and psychological all at once. When pain is uncontrolled, the nervous system stays in a constant state of distress. Sleep breaks down. Movement becomes impossible. Isolation increases. The brain stops producing the same levels of dopamine and motivation that come from normal life activities. Over time, people do not just lose comfort. They lose function, independence, identity and hope. That is why pain management is not about chasing zero pain. It is about restoring function and quality of life. 🧠 For a long time I was essentially bedbound. Not because I was lazy. Not because I was “giving up”. Because my pain was so severe that existing inside my own body felt unbearable. Now the difference between that version of me and the version of me that can leave the house, move my body, go to appointments, exercise and actually participate in my life comes down to one thing. Appropriate pain management. For me that includes morphine and medicinal 🍃 when pain escalates beyond what my body can cope with. But those are not the only things involved in my treatment. My daily and ongoing management includes: 💊 High dose nerve pain medication 💊 Long acting Targin for baseline pain control 💊 Instant release Palexia for breakthrough pain 💊 Catapres for autonomic dysregulation and venous issues in my brain that contribute to pressure headaches 💉 Monthly migraine preventative injection 💉 Cranial, cervical and facial Botox every 3 months to reduce nerve irritation and inflammation 🧠 Cervical and cranial nerve blocks every 6 months 🧠 Radiofrequency ablation targeting occipital and cervical nerves 💉 Ketorolac intramuscular injections for emergency inflammatory flares before escalating to steroids 💊 Prednisone PRN when multisystem inflammatory conditions spiral and need rapid control 🩸 Blood thinners 💊 Regular Panadol Osteo That is the full picture. Pain medication is one piece of a very complex treatment plan. 🌿 Here is the part people misunderstand about opioids in chronic pain. Many guidelines say opioids are not recommended for chronic pain. That statement is based on average cases and population level studies. But emerging research and specialist pain medicine literature acknowledges something important. For people with complex, multi condition chronic pain, carefully monitored opioid therapy can play a meaningful role in restoring function. Because chronic pain is not one disease. A single diagnosis might not require opioids. But when someone lives with multiple conditions interacting together, the combined pain load can become severe and disabling. Pain specialists call this complex chronic pain. In those cases, the goal of opioids is not sedation or escape. The goal is functional restoration. 🌱 I cannot rebuild my body without pain control. I cannot exercise, complete physiotherapy, rebuild muscle density, or retrain my nervous system if my pain is so severe that I cannot move. The only way I can rehabilitate my body and eventually reduce reliance on medication is by having enough pain relief to participate in life again. Pain relief allows me to: • leave the house • move my body • rebuild strength • regulate my nervous system • experience natural dopamine again • reconnect with the world Without it, I would still be stuck in the deterioration cycle that chronic pain creates. ⚡ Pain relief does not mean someone is weak. Pain relief does not mean someone is “drug seeking”. Sometimes pain relief is the bridge that allows a person to survive long enough to rebuild their life. For many of us living with complex chronic illness, pain relief is not addiction. Pain relief is access to life. 💛 #chronicpain #HealingJourney #opioidepidemic #chronicillnessawareness #painmanagement

As a CRPS patient, I have been on opioids for over 21 years. I have still not found any treatment that helps, I have tried everything. Pain relief is suicide prevention that is one of the best statements. I’ve heard in 21 years.💪🏻👏🏻

I hate when I see doctors and people arguing that „research shoes that opiates don’t work on chronic pain” well, it works for me and for many chronically ill people. One other thing is labelling relief only for cancer pain. How can anyone decide what kind of pain is more deserving of treatment. Pain is pain.
