@willharlowphysio: A strong core makes everyday movements easier, from getting out of a chair to walking, bending, and staying steady on your feet. But here’s the problem: many common core exercises aren’t ideal for older adults. Crunches can put unnecessary strain on the spine, and planks often don’t reflect how your body actually moves in everyday life. What you really need is controlled, supportive core strength that protects your back while your arms and legs move. Try this instead, it’s called Table Tops. 🔸 Lie on your back and gently flatten your lower back into the mat. 🔸 Bring one leg up to 90°, then lift the other so both legs are in the air. 🔸 Slowly lower one leg down as if you’re trying to lightly tap your heel on the floor, then bring it back up. 🔸 Repeat on the other side. Move slowly and with control, keeping your lower back pressed down. 👉 Aim for 10–15 reps on each leg. Done regularly, this builds the kind of stable, supportive core that protects your spine and improves everyday movement. 👉 Follow my account for simple, practical ways to stay mobile, capable, and independent for years to come. I have grade 1 spondylolithesis and steroid injections didn’t work and don’t qualify for nerve cauterisation so have to strengthen my core! Physio has advised dead bugs and bird dog along with others such as clam and hip rotated leg raises. Was hard to start with but getting easier
