I'm preparing for another attempt at running 100 miles in under 24 hours, but this time there's something a little different about it! 𝗜'𝗺 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁! 💪 A while ago, whilst attempting one of my challenges in the Peak District, I met a lady and we got talking about life, losing Jake and the work I now do. Recently, she got back in touch and invited me to speak at an upcoming event focused on men's mental health and suicide prevention. What a privilege! I won't share names or details just yet, out of respect for those organising it. But I've since learned more about the organisation involved, and I have tremendous respect for the work they're doing to make a positive difference. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴... I've been inspired by David Goggins for years. One thing that stuck with me was how he'd sometimes run extraordinary distances to his speaking engagements. I've wanted to incorporate something similar into my own journey for a while. So the plan is to find a suitable starting point 100 miles from where I'll be staying, attempt to cover that distance in under 24 hours, and arrive the evening before I deliver my talk. 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵! When I stand in front of people talking about resilience, self-respect, accountability and purpose, I want to continue living those principles myself. Not because everyone needs to take on extreme challenges. This is simply one of the ways I've learned to grow and keep moving forward. And behind it all is Jake. The boy in this photograph. My son. ❤️ I can't change what happened to him, but I can choose what I do with the life I still have. 𝗜𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and for the people out there who genuinely want to help others. Now I've just got to put the work in! 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝘁. 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆. ❤️ #GriefToGrit #ChoosingToStay #MensMentalHealth #DavidGoggins
