⚡ 2v2 Attack v Defence Transition | Small-Sided Game Sharpen your players’ ability to attack with speed and then immediately transition to defend. This drill builds intensity, fitness, and game realism. 💥 Setup: 1 full-size penalty box with a goalkeeper. 1 smaller pitch just outside the penalty area with a mini goal (or small-sided goal) + goalkeeper. 2 teams of 2 players (attackers & defenders). How It Works: 1️⃣ Play begins with 2 attackers vs 2 defenders aiming to score in the small goal outside the penalty area. 2️⃣ Once the attack is finished (shot, save, block, or turnover), the attacking pair must immediately transition into defenders. 3️⃣ A fresh pair of attackers drive at the main goal (with goalkeeper), forcing the original attackers to recover quickly and defend. 4️⃣ If defenders win the ball back at any point, they can: ✅ Pass back to a teammate to reset play, or ✅ Exploit the moment by countering straight to goal. 5️⃣ Rotate pairs after each sequence to keep intensity high. Coaching Focus: ✅ Speed of transition — attackers becoming defenders instantly ✅ Communication & recovery runs ✅ Compact defending after attacking ✅ Recognising when to counter vs when to recycle ✅ Fitness & mentality under pressure Progressions: 🔹 Limit touches for quicker play. 🔹 Add neutral players to create overloads. 🔹 Award bonus points for scoring within 5 seconds of transition. 📌 Save this drill for your next session & tag a coach who loves intensity training! #transitiondrill #2v2drill #attacktodefence #footballtraining #soccertraining #smallSidedGame #footballcoach #soccercoach #coachingdrills #youthsoccer #youthfootball #playerdevelopment #soccerdrills #footballpractice #attackingdrills #defendingdrills #transitionplay #footballfitness #soccerfitness #gameintelligence #coachingfootball #footballacademy #socceracademy #precisionplaycoaching #intensitytraining
