@atlneurosurgeon: Progress usually asks for discomfort first. In medicine, we see this everywhere. A medical student pushing through exhaustion to learn how to think differently. A surgeon whose work is still physically and mentally demanding long after training ends. And patients doing the quieter work of health — controlling blood sugar, changing nutrition, showing up to physical therapy, building better habits day after day. Modern medicine can do remarkable things. But it can’t replace the work that real healing requires. Maybe pain isn’t always something to fear. Sometimes it’s simply part of growth. A signal that something is being strengthened, retrained, or rebuilt. The challenge is learning not to see every discomfort as something to avoid. Sometimes it’s the work that moves us forward.
