@therealniccoy: People call trauma survivors “too sensitive.” Neuroscience calls it mirror neurons. Your brain literally simulates what others are feeling. When you grew up needing to read the room for safety, that system becomes incredibly sharp. So yes… we notice tone shifts. micro-expressions. inconsistencies. It’s not paranoia. It’s pattern recognition. #patternrecognition #mirrorneurons #identity #healing #fyp
Mirror neurons are also born when we experience strong positive emotions together: being at a concert together, laughing at the same thing at the same time, seeing the same gorgeous view. And we can do this on PURPOSE snd strengthen our connections. This is why we easily connect with people who love the same band for instance. If we used this wisely, we could literally grow more empathy between people. The possibilities...

My mirror neurons work so hard I develop an accent if the other person has one 🫣

I’m currently in therapy to unlearn how to be so triggered by other people’s “big feelings” bc if someone is mad or sad, my brain puts me in emergency alert.

Nope :
it doesn't happen often at all, but when I feel something I dont understand introspectively, I stare at my face in the mirror so I can understand it. My mirror neurons are so overdeveloped compared to my introspection that I have to look at myself like a stranger to avoid months of therapy in an instant

So that’s why I want to be alone. I feel everything someone else is feeling I can’t do it anymore. It’s so heavy

The downside, it takes a toll on your health. For me, it was a lifetime of living in a perpetual state of fight or flight. I can read a room before I see a single person, clock micro changes in expression, tone, and body language, I know how to regulate other's emotions, but it has caused a slew of autoimmune and heart problems.

Yes and it’s exhausting sometimes. It sounds silly but that’s why I watch the same movies over and over because I know the emotions I’m going to face. Really hard for me to watch a new one.

What’s so annoying about this is when others dismiss your findings. Because then I’m so overly self aware that I’ll question my own observations just because others don’t see it 😭

It’s still trauma. It’s not a superpower. The body is still in survival mode and is trying to protect itself from danger.

I recently consciously chose to mirror and lock into the energies of unconditional love, joy, knowing I'm safe, and knowing that I'm worthy of self care. It was right after noticing in the moment that I was still mirroring upset people's energies. I was also finally ready to be done with that habit. It's been a wonderful shift after all of these years.
