@cleoabram: This piece of glass can store data for 10,000 years and is kept in a library managed by robots. A laser etches the data inside the glass, permanently encoding it. One piece can store the equivalent of 13 years worth of music or 3,500 movies. When your great-great-great-great grandkids are ready to read it, little robots go and fetch the right glass card and bring it to a microscope that scans the data and decodes. To find out when you might have a glass library of your own, follow along! #Science #Tech #data #laser #robot
3500 hours of music is like saying 39370 inches instead of 1 km.

#1 computers don't come with mechanical hard drives anymore, they're all solid-state drives now. #2 what you're showing us (this magical glass) are basically CD's 💿.

If it requires an ai system to decode the information then wouldn’t that mean there are chances of mistakes?

why would an ai system be needed for decoding?

And in 20 years when some newer tech that is even more reliable has even better data density, the tech needed to read these glass cards will stop getting made, and the 10,000 year longevity will become pointless

OK so basically it's a long term backup. It's like unwrittable dvd. One time use, purely for storage.
