@maxlamanna: 😷“Your bin doesn’t smell?” After successfully persuading my local council in London to give me a food waste bin when I first moved here, I do think this new legislation is a step in the right direction. The law comes into place on the 31st March 2026, so if you live in England and don’t already recycle your food waste - get ready for another bin collection! We can all be doing better when it comes to reducing our food waste - supermarkets especially must be held accountable. Recycling food waste should be the last resort. True change would look like widespread access to community composts as standard, and a more equitable and considered approach to food production as a whole. 👨🏻🌾If you can compost, do so! When food scraps return to the soil, they break down into nutrients that feed the ground beneath our feet. That soil grows the next generation of plants, and those plants eventually feed us. (I will show you more on how to compost soon!) Here are my top three tips to reduce food waste at home: 1. Plan your meals in advance and cook what you already have before buying more 2.Take a photo of inside your fridge and cupboards before heading out to shop 3.Volunteer and get to know your local food bank Cook more, waste less and don’t forget to compost. What’s your take on food waste bins? #breakfast #lunch #dinner

Concils need to give us better food waste bins that foxes can't easily open, they make a mess!

We've had food waste collections for about 10 years. It's not mandatory though.

We've had a food waste bin since the early 2000s. how can it smell worse when most people's general waste is only collected every 2 or 3 weeks, but the food waste bin is collected weekly?

Sorry, but you need to do a little bit more research, not every council is doing this. Check your facts

This isn’t true? It’s becoming mandatory for all local authorities to provide food waste collection for households. Not that all households must recycle food waste.

Not true, we aren’t being forced where I live, but we have a garden waste bin that we add food to and it gets collected every week

I was really excited until I learned my county wasn't given enough funding to give every home a food waste bin and collection service. It requires specialist vehicles that aren't in the budget. Apparently, they won't be able to roll them out to the full county area for 3 or 4 more tax years unless the government gives them direct funding for it, according to my local councillor :(

I've lived in areas that have had a food waste collection for so long I can't remember the last time I didn't. food waste goes out every week, back bags every 3. it doesn't smell.
